Teeth Whitening

Whiter Teeth, No Excuses

“ Isn’t there something I can just paint on my teeth to make them whiter?” After years of hearing this request Colgate has finally done something about it. They have developed a bleaching gel that can be applied to your teeth – just like nail polish is applied to the fingernails. They call it “Simply White”. When something sounds too good to be true… it usually is.

Do you want whiter teeth? Today the choice is yours. However there are a few things you should know.

What are my options ?

Home Bleaching: ($300- 375)

In the dental office, molds of the upper and lower teeth are taken. Using these custom molds, the dentist fabricates custom trays. These trays are made from a thin soft material. Using carbamide peroxide for about ½ hour twice a day, you will be able to bleach your teeth in about 7-10 days.

Advantages:

Color that lasts: The Journal of Dental Research showed that 73% of the home bleaching patients retained their color change after 13 to 15 months without additional bleaching.

Less Sensitivity: The bleaching gel has a buffer that prevents the teeth from getting too sensitive.

Ability to “Jump Start” If you are in a hurry you can “jump start” your bleaching with an in-office bleaching for the first application.

Disadvantages:

Cost: Although it is not as expensive as the In-Office Bleaching, it is still more than the low budget bleaching systems.

In-Office Bleaching INCLUDES TAKE HOME KIT ($800)

Using 35% hydrogen peroxide and a Laser Light we can get your teeth white FAST.

Advantages:

Instant Results: If you have a wedding or other function “tonight” have made it possible for many of our “impatient” patients to have whiter teeth immediately!

Maintenance:

Color that Lasts: It has been our experience that AFTER In-Office Bleaching, we provide our patients with a follow-up home bleaching kit for touch ups every 3-6 months.

Sensitivity: Because we are making a major color change in a very short time – Sensitivity is normal for a few days after bleaching. If your teeth are normally VERY sensitive you should choose home bleaching.

Over-the-Counter Products

Crest WhiteStrips: ($45), Simply White: ($15)

Advantages:

Most Economical: Certainly this is the most economical way to get your teeth whiter.

Crest guarantees that 3 weeks of wearing the strips twice a day – whitening will last 6 months and then the procedure should be done again for 3 weeks.

Simply White is Fun: Imagine painting the bleaching gel onto your teeth with a bottle of clear liquid that has no taste or color.

Disadvantages

Difficult to wear: Crest White Strips feel like a strip of saran wrap that has 6% hydrogen peroxide gel on the surface. Most of our patients found it was annoying to wear – but the price is right.

Not as effective as Home Bleaching: The price is low because the results are limited

We still recommend these over-the-counter products for people with limited budget. For a just few dollars they can feel good about their whiter teeth. When they’re ready for professional results – they can see us!
